Crimson Fire Introduces the Boomer(TM)

BRANDON, S.D. — Crimson Fire is introducing a fire-rescue device that will create a new category of firefighting technology at the Fire Department Instructors Conference, which opens today.

Crimson, which is a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPAR), will unveil the Boomer(TM) at the industry's largest trade show, which runs through April 21 in Indianapolis, Ind. The first-of-its-kind crossover product combines five separate emergency-rescue functions into a single device that is more versatile, less costly and more compact.

The Boomer, which provides elevation, water discharge, hydraulics and air, electrical and lift, will be on display at Booth 2433.

"The Boomer truly creates a new category of emergency-rescue technology," said Jim Salmi, president of Crimson Fire. "It addresses a critical need for the 25,000-plus fire departments in our country who do not have an aerial or elevated device because of cost. The pricing of the Boomer is less than two- thirds what it would cost to buy all these functions separately, making the Boomer a smart and affordable purchase for departments.

"Crimson recognized the need for increased functionality and emergency- response capabilities at motor vehicle accident scenes, which comprise a growing number of duty calls. More than two years of research, design and development have gone into creating our solution: the Boomer."

The Boomer features patent-pending technology, including:

  • A 28-foot master stream that can be rotated 360 degrees and elevated from -10 degrees to +90 degrees for greater firefighting reach
  • A 6,000-watt light tower with adjustable lights to direct powerful illumination where needed
  • Connections for high-pressure hydraulic rescue tools that provide life-saving functions at the scene of major motor-vehicle accidents
  • Two additional hand-line discharges to broaden the reach of firefighters
  • The ability to lift 1,000 pounds

The Boomer features Crimson's unique tubular design of stainless steel, making it one of the strongest and more durable on the market. The Boomer is also available on a Spartan custom chassis, as well as on commercial chassis.

Maintenance will also be easier for the Boomer. While traditional aerials have more than 1,300 components, the Boomer has approximately 250.

The Boomer will only be available through authorized Crimson Fire dealers. It is being marketed overseas by the W.S. Darley Co., the industry's leading manufacturer of pumps.

"The role of firefighters is changing to become the first responder to all hazards," Salmi said. "The Boomer provides enhanced emergency-rescue capabilities to departments at a very cost-effective price, making it a market-changing product.

"Buzz is already strong about the Boomer, and we feel that it will be well received by the market."
