| The City of Cedar Falls is seeking a Fire Chief. Directs a fire department with 33 certified firefighters, 20 paid-on call and volunteer firefighters, and 1 civilian staff. The position reports to the Mayor and is appointed by the Mayor subject to City Council approval. The ideal candidate will have the following management experience: collective bargaining; recruitment and training of paid-on-call and volunteer staff; innovative approach to fire administration; ability to effectively introduce and implement change; effective communicator; goal setting and strategic planning, financial planning and budgeting; and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide sound solutions to sensitive fire and fire building code enforcement issues and community problems. Four to five years of professional fire management experience required, including supervisory experience with departments that utilize a combination of career and volunteer staff. Graduation from the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program preferred. Position requires equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in fire science, public administration or closely related field. Individual must successfully complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) classes 100-400 & 700-800 and possess, or have the ability to obtain, State of Iowa Fire Instructor and Firefighter II Certifications and a valid driver’s license. Current salary range $78,139 - $116,062. Post-offer pre-employment physical and drug screen required. $10 Civil Service testing fee required for applicants meeting minimum qualifications.
