Job Description
|
| This position reports directly to the WSI Project Manager/Fire Chief. The Assistant Chief of Training, Inspections, and Safety will develop and manage a training program, facility inspection program, and a Departmental safety program for a full service industrial fire department that ensures compliance with applicable OSHA and State of Alabama laws and regulations, NFPA standards, and Ciba and Wackenhut Services policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Develop a training and certification program for all fire service personnel which meets the criteria set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Create an annual training plan that will be used to direct monthly training throughout the year.
Ensure training activities are documented and all Fire personnel records are maintained. Ensure all personnel maintain current training and certification relative to their job classification.
Ensure training criteria is developed for new protective gear or equipment as well as new fire fighting techniques. Write Standard Operating Procedures/Guidelines for such equipment and techniques as required.
Develop and manage a facility inspection program in accordance with established OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and Ciba laws, standards, and requirements. Maintain and manage the established Pre-Incident Plan program.
Institute the Departmental Safety plan and ensure compliance with NFPA 1500, OSHA laws, and the Statement of Work (SOW). Assume duties of Safety Officer at all emergency incidents. Monitor Safety program to determine trends and anomalies and provide input to the Fire Chief.
Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and sub-groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.
Represent the Department at local, state, and national gatherings. Speak to groups or organizations when invited.
Develop Departmental policies and standard operating procedures.
Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition. Ensure safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Pay:
Current Assistant Chief salary is $65,094/Year
This position is classified as Salary/Exempt.
This position will work a 40 hour work week.
Holiday Pay:
10 paid holidays
Vacation:
After one year of service 80 Hours per year
After five years of service 120 Hours per year
After ten years of service 160 Hours per year
Illness Leave:
After 3 months of service accrued at 8 hours/month to a maximum of 240 hours
Insurance:
Group insurance coverage is provided through a cafeteria plan. BlueCross & BlueShield of Alabama currently provides health coverage. MetLife provides dental coverage and VSP provides vision coverage. WSI contributes the following amounts towards insurance:
Single coverage - $340.50/month
Family coverage - $617.50/month
401(k) Plan:
Company will match up to 6% of the employees annual base after 6 months of service
Educational Assistance Plan:
Up to $1000/year for job related education

Job Requirements
|
Age 21Education High School Diploma or GED; Associate Degree PreferredExperience Must have served as a company officer and 2-5 years progressive firefighting experience
Additional Requirement : Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, Associates degree preferred.
Fire Instructor II Certification in accordance with NFPA 1041 or equivalent.
Must have served at the company officer level, and have 5-7 years of progressive firefighting experience.
Preferred higher education in related fire protection courses.
Fire Officer II Certification in accordance with NFPA 1021 or equivalent.
Has current certification in CPR.
Alabama Emergency Medical Technician.
Certified to minimum Hazardous Materials Technician, Confined Space and High/Low Angle and Vehicle Rescue Technician, and On-scene Incident Commander levels.
Has Incident Command Training.
Possesses a valid Drivers license.
Strong knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills, as well as, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and be a team player.
