The dynamic, multi-cultural city of San Mateo, California (pop. 95,000) located on the Peninsula midway between San Francisco and Silicon Valley is seeking an independent, visionary and results-oriented emergency services professional to raise the City’s level of emergency planning, preparedness, and response to 21st Century standards.
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the new Emergency Services Manager (ESM) will be responsible for managing all facets of the City’s emergency preparedness including coordinating the planning and readiness of protective, relief and support services, both public and private, for response to a variety of emergency or disaster situations.
Ideal candidates will be experienced emergency services professionals possessing the ability to immediately comprehend and assess the City’s current emergency preparedness and then develop and implement a comprehensive and, most importantly, workable Emergency Response Plan from that assessment. A relationship builder with a ‘roll up your sleeves’ attitude and the willingness to perform the functions of the ESM from the mundane to the critical will fare well in this environment. The ability to disseminate effective emergency-related information and train a highly diverse community in emergency preparedness will be expected. Three years of experience in either fire management or emergency response and a Bachelor’s degree will help ensure the Emergency Services Manager’s success. SEMS and NIMS certification are highly desirable.
